Thanks, Teemu. It was tough putting it together because the presentation was for high school teachers in the townships outside of Cape Town where I'm currently working with Teachers Without Borders. Very different audience, as you know.
By the way, I also showed them LeMill and they were very impressed and interested in the collaborative aspect of it.
I have some edu/research/teacher friends in Pretoria-Johannesburg area if you are interested in to meet up with more people. I was there for some months in 2006 starting up the MobilED project (http://www.mobiled.org).
I'm here doing workshops for high school teachers on tech integration. I'm in Cape Town until July 19th and then I'm flying to Kenya for a month to work with teachers there. Would love to meet face to face with your colleagues but I'm afraid there won't be any time.
However, I would love to connect with MobilEd people through email/phone because there might be some opportunities here for projects. Would that be possible? I'll be on leave next year and would also love to contribute to MobilEd or similar projects if you think that there is room for someone like me.
As you know, cell phones here are a key mode of communication and info retrieval while Internet access, especially in schools is very slow and often capped at 5-7 gig per month. I'd love to initiate some kind of MobilEd project at one of the schools I'm working with here.
Let me know if such a possibility exists or perhaps direct me to people here in SA who might be interested.
What is the email you are using in there? Your jaikus seems to be public.
The institution in Pretoria I was working with is called Meraka (http://www.meraka.org.za/).
The schools I have been collaborating with are Cornwall Hill (http://www.cornwall.co.za/) and Irene Midddle School (no website, no article in the Wikipedia, something anyway: http://mobiled.uiah.fi/?p=25). The Irenen school is verly close to the Cornwall Hill.
Enjoy Kenya. A long time ago I spent some time in western Kenya in Kakamega (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakamega). I assume you may still find a real Finnish sauna from there.
Teemul, I met a faculty member of the University of Pretoria yesterday. We were discussing "e-learning" at her Uni. in Pretoria. I mentioned MobilEd to give her some inspiration and she was postively overwhelmed. when you get a chance we can briefly talk.
